Day 2 of our Salt Lake City Road Trip did not go so well. One of the most concerning issues was the Monster was sick and throwing up for the entire drive. This was extremely worrisome as he never gets car sick. Between coming home a major accident in his crate on the first night and him getting sick we debated on whether to take him to the vet. So we decided to stay in our hotel to keep an eye on him for the night. Luckily the Monster made it through the night without throwing up.

Finding a Vet
By the time we woke up, we were feeling good about the Monster. No accidents, no vomiting, and he was acting like his happy little self. He would not open his eyes all the way, but I thought he was just a sleepy. By the time I was out of the shower both Stephanie and I were concerned. The sick monster would not open his left eye at all. Link was either working on his pirate impression or he had something wrong with his eye now. Between his tummy issues and his eye, it was absolutely time to take him to the vet.

Back home we typically use the vet at Petsmart, Banfield Animal Hospital. While we aren’t always happy with them, one of the benefits is they are all over the country and that means every location has your pet’s information on file. We initially called the Banfield closest to our hotel, in central Salt Lake City. However, after talking to that Banfield it was clear they would not look at our dog. The rather rude person who answered the phone made it more than clear that they were not going to be able to see the Monster. Luckily the other Banfield in Salt Lake located at 3191 East 3300 South was willing to take us. They were extremely friendly and understood our concern. Not knowing when the vet was going to have the time, they asked us to drop off link for the day.
One Sick Monster
We went about our day without Link. It was a little bit sad without link for the day, but the Bug didn’t mind getting to be the center of attention. After a day of some really great food, taking the Bug off leash at the park, and exploring Olympic Park the vet called us. Link had two things wrong with him. Before he left Seattle (probably in our backyard), link picked up a parasite. This is what was causing his tummy issues. He also had a tiny pinpoint scratch in the eye. The vet thought maybe a branch hit him.
Luckily for us neither of these are serious conditions, and with medications link quickly got better. It was not cheap and made for a really interesting day in Salt Lake, but the rest of the trip there were no more Monster issues and link was his normally goofy self.
