After Breakfast at The Other Place, and while waiting for news of Linky at the vet, we decided to take the Bug (Litnik/Litty) to the Park. Salt Lake City has some great parks, and with the Monster at the vet we could take Litty off her leash. Litty is absolutely in love with Stephanie (who isn’t?). Litty does not leave Stephanie’s side. While Monster is extremely an extremely anxious puppy who potentially could bolt. So when he is around we keep them both on his leash.
Sugar House Park
Sugar House Park is located on what was originally the location of Sugar House Prison. The prison was Utah’s first state penitentiary. Once they built the new prison, they tore down the old prison and replaced it with a beautiful park. The centerpiece of sugar hill park is the scenic pond which serves as a beautiful foreground for the breathtaking mountain backdrop.
Unfortunately, Utah is in the midst of a drought which the Governor has declared a statewide emergency. As a result of this drought, the pond has all but dried up. However, the mountains in winter still make for an extremely beautiful view even with terrible weather.
Sugar House Park is not actually an off-leash park, but when we got there everyone who was with their dogs was off leash. So for the first time ever, we unleashed the Bug! Litty absolutely loved her little bit of freedom. While never going to far from Stephanie’s side, she would slightly wander off to enjoy all of the smells nature. If she ever seemed like she would adventure off, we called her back and she came immediately.
Even when confronted with an overly excited puppy. Litty was able to have fun but came right back when called. She had the time of her life. Sugar house park is an exceptionally gorgeous park, and would be a great place to have a nice picnic lunch, weather permitting.
Tanner Park
After Sugar House park, we went over to Tanner park. Tanner Park is located in the Parley Canyon area of Salt Lake City. It is an extremely popular park among dog owners and is known for its amazing views of both Salt Lake City and the mountains.
Tanner Park is also a great park for people who want to take a quick hike. As a number of trails start in the Tanner Park area.
Salt Lake City Parks Overall
Salt Lake City is an extremely gorgeous area and Sugar House and Tanner Parks are some of the best places in the City to enjoy an afternoon with your favorite people and puppies.
