Europe Trip Report: Colmar, Berlin, Copenhagen Happy Wallet Adventures

On the heels of our trips to Nashville and New York (reports on these coming as soon as i finish up Salt Lake City), Stephanie and I jetted off to Europe.

The Deal

The exciting part of this trip is the flight home. Back in July iberia ran a promotion which netted each of us 90,000 Iberia Avios for $273. With these avios and another $200 for taxes we booked a one way first class flight from Copenhagen to Seattle. So we had to figure out how to get there. I decided to utilize a bank of delta skymiles that I had saved from the Delta AMEX card signup bonus. For 32 ,500 we booked flights from Seattle to Basel Switzerland. The plan was to visit Comar, France make our way up to Berlin, Germany, and finish our trip in Copenhagen.

However a few months after we booked our flights, Delta ran a sale offering R/T flights to Europe for 30,000 Skymiles. So we decided to invite our moms along on the trip. Stephanie’s mom has always wanted to travel, but being a single mother and raising 3 kids she never could afford it. We figured it would be a really nice treat to use that sale and have her first major travel experience. We were both nervous and excited to get to be a part of this. As Stephanie mom was a bit worried to meet us in Europe by herself, we invited my mom along as well. My mom is a more experience traveler so she would be able to help logistically.
