Our first stop on our trip to Europe was Colmar France. While it can be tough to get to, it is the perfect place to spend a day. We were in Colmar for slightly longer than 24 hours. The morning of the second day we decided to have a quick sit down breakfast. Everywhere I searched, everyone really loved Bistrot Gourmand.
Bistrot Gourmand
Bistrot Gourmand is an excellent place to have in mind while traveling Colmar. As a smaller European town, most restaurants in Colmar close between lunch and dinner. I didn’t realize this when I first arrived in Colmar, and we unsuccessfully tried to go to 2 restaurants for a late lunch before settling on just grabbing something from a bakery. Bistrot Gourmand is open from 8:30am-8:00pm and does not close between either meal. They are known for their brunch, which absolutely looks amazing.
We later found out they don’t start serving their full brunch menu until 10am. We arrived right at 8am. Between 8am and 10 am they only offer a set breakfast. This set breakfast is absolutely and unbelievably European. The breakfast consists of a coffee, Juice, two rolls, a crepe, two different types of ham, and some cheeses.
This may not look like much, but it was extremely filling. Everything was delicious. The bread was hot fresh from the oven and the crepe was extremely light and had just enough powdered sugar on it to add a pinch of sweetness. And the cheese….ohhhhh the cheese. Not to sound like a snob or anything, but there is nothing like European Cheese. I don’t know whether we, in the US, add preservatives or something to our cheese, but damn this cheese was fantastic. I have no clue what type of cheese the round white one is, but if I could just eat that for the rest of my life I would be so happy. Though Stephanie would not be happy, because I would get very gassy.
If they do breakfast this good, I can only imagine how great the brunch everyone raves about tastes.
Price
Bistrot Gourmand prices are extremely reasonable. This set breakfast cost just under €9; andafter tip we paid $21 USD total. The reasonable pricing continues on to brunch. Looking at their full winter menu, nothing is over €10 with the average item running about €8-€9. With how great everyone says their brunch is, if I find myself in Colmar again, I will definitely stop in.
Overall
Despite having a limited menu before 10am, Bistrot Gourmand was a great breakfast at a reasonable price. Everything they serve is of the highest quality and extremely delicious. Whatever your do don’t skimp on the cheese!
