2018 was an extremely exciting year in my travel life. Stephanie and I took our first trip to Asia when we visited Shanghai and Tokyo. I also to take my first flight on Japan Airlines and visited some a US city I never thought I would ever visit, Boise. Most importantly I started Happy Wallet Adventures, which has been a dream of mine for several years. Looking forward to 2019, there are five travel first’s I am really excited about.
1. My First International First Class and Business Flights (And I didn’t break the bank)
Back in July Iberia ran an insane promo where I was able to get 90,000 Iberia Avios for $273. With our 90,000 avios each Stephanie and I were able to book first class flights from Copenhagen to Seattle on British Airways.
A lot of people like to trash on BA’s first class as “the world’s best business class,” as it is not up to the standards of other airlines first class. But as I have never even sat in a lie-flat seat I am extremely excited about the experience. We are about 4 weeks out from this flights and I am constantly looking at the inflight menu and am already planning out which first class lounges at Heathrow we are going to visit on our 6 hour layover. Currently, the plan in the Cathay Pacific First lounge in T3, Qantas Lounge T3, and then the Concorde room.
Then, later in the year, I will be taking my first Business Class flight. Back in December I was able to take advantage of an error fare I posted on my Facebook and Twitter and book a one way flight from Prague to JFK in Business for $340 on Air Serbia.
2. First Trip to Croatia
I have been absolutely obsessed with Croatia recently. It is number one on destination on my travel bucket list. Croatia is an insanely beautiful country, known for its amazing food, and is on the verge of really blowing up as a vacation destination. I particularly excited to visit before it does become the IT destination and becomes too expensive to visit.
I was able to book this as part of an British Airways Error Fare that resulted in round trips as low as $240. My fr/t was about $340 but that was due to my schedule.
3. My First Flight on a Double Decker Plane
I have been to over 25 countries and never have flown on a Airbus A-380 or a Boeing 747. For the past couple years I have been trying to book a flight on a double decker and have dealt with equipment and schedule changes that stopped it. Currently I have flights scheduled in April to fly on British Airways 747 and a Lufthansa 747.
While unfortunately I will be in economy in both of these flights and sitting on the lower deck, I am still excited to be able to fly on the queen of the skies before they are all retired.
4. First Guided Trip and Couples Trip
One of my other travel obsessions are the cheap government subsidized trips to China. I have never been on a guided trip but a Sub <$500 package that includes flights, hotels, and tours through China have just intrigued me. Then on black friday this year, UTOvacation.com ran one of these trips for $299.00. I could not pass it up. Because Stephanie had been wanting to go on a trip with some of our friend, we also got them to do the trip as well. This will be Stephanie and I’s first couples trip (if you don’t count my parents).
I think it will be very interesting to see how this will go. While I know that these typically have a lot of shopping stops, I figure even it if turns out poorly we didn’t spend a crazy amount of money on this trip.
5. First full year of Happy Wallet Adventures
Finally, my last first I am excited for is my first full year of Happy Wallet Adventures. I started this blog back in late october with my trip to boise. Since then it has been an extremely fun ride. I have visited many places I would not normally visit and have more travel planned this year than any other year of my life.
My goal this year for HWA is to continue to grow and learn. I am new to this blogging thing and new to writing for non-lawyers. I am consistently working on finding my voice and spreading the joy of travel. Hopefully, in 2019 I can inspire more people to go out and adventure fulfill their travel dreams.
Are you experiencing any Travel Firsts in 2019?
Until next time, Happy Travels!
